Matt Caseli has circumnavigated the globe, headphones in hand, playing at some of the finest parties in numerous iconic venues. His Pacha Ibiza residency is possibly the thing that catapulted him into the international limelight but an ability to read and rock any crowd and a penchant for long hours in the studio resulting in numerous club bangers has cemented his place at clubbing’s top table. Saturday February 23 sees him drop into Phuket and Xana Beach Club with Attica for the launch of Xana With Attica’s Pool Party.
The monthly event will combine day and night, bringing a selection of international stars combined with some of the finest talent already on the island. As well as the party, you will be able to dance in the rain on the beach with our specially constructed rain dance section while the kids enjoy their own area. Bang Tao beach offers one of the most beautiful views on the island, we caught up with Matt as he gets set to leave home in Australia to find out how he prepares for a gig like Xana with Attica…
Having held down an Ibiza residency at Pacha and toured extensively around the world, what does playing in Asia give you that is unique?
I love Asia…been playing there for about the last 8 years. The crowds are always very friendly and up for a big night! Had so many great times in places like Bali, Jakarta, Singapore, Hong Kong and so on…the people are always very receptive to my music and always dance their asses off!
We are launching our Pool Party concept with you; do you enjoy the day time party?
Day time parties for me began in Ibiza with the terrace of Space which as I’m sure you know was an institution for the day time clubbing experience! Beach and pool parties are always fun, can drop some groovey beats and watch the sun go down. Sure I love the day and the night too…my last big party like this was at Ku De Ta Bali, which was amazing! Cool grooves into big rocking tunes once the sun was down…that’s the way!
What does it give you that the club can’t?
Freedom is the first word that comes to mind, fresh air and no sweaty smoky atmosphere ha-ha. Also, it’s nice to see the open sky, especially at night DJing under the stars is very cool and with a full moon even better!
Xana with Attica overlooks the stunning Bang Tao beach and enjoys a stunning sunset; how special is the Ibiza sunset session and why should we be making more of it in Xana With Attica?
Sunset sessions are stuff of legend and of course Ibiza is world famous for that one. Places like Café Del Mar are very special to me and remind me of my first real sunset experience with amazing music. If you can come close to re-creating that then you’re onto a winner! I also like how Café Mambo in Ibiza went for the more upbeat sunset session approach and for me this is a great concept as apposed to chill out…cause at the end of the day we want to party right?
You’ve signed with Axwell’s Axtone label, how did that come about?
I’ve known Ax for a long time; we were both signed to the legendary US House label Soulfuric Records. Then he started his Swedish House Mafia nights at Pacha a few years back with Steve and Sebastian. So I just felt a change in my music style was needed after playing house for so long and wanted to do something much more rocking for the big rooms! So I came up with the idea to re-make Terrance Trent Darby’s classic hit ‘Sign Your Name’ which Ax loved! The rest is then history…
What should we be looking out for from you on the production front?
I’m in the middle of many new projects taking in lots of different genres from tech House to progressive to even a touch of electro! As I’m now based in Australia this is more the sound that works here. My second single with Marrs TV & Joel Edwards called ‘One Heart’ comes out this month on top Oz label One Love. Then look out for more releases with labels Neon, Harem, Milk & Sugar and so on….busy bee at the moment!
