Phuket, Thailand, March 2018: Angsana Laguna Phuket will celebrate the Thai New Year in style with the traditional Songkran Festival. One of Thailand’s most anticipated and celebrated annual festivals from 13 to 15 April, the country commemorates the occasion with a spectacular water festival alongside traditional cultural shows and Buddhist ceremonies. Angsana Laguna Phuket in collaboration with XANA Beach Club will be organising a full day of endless cultural fun and water activity on Friday, 13 April 2018.
The festivities will kick-off at the Loy Krathong Bar, where associates and guests alike will gather for a celebratory religious session, followed by a water blessing ritual at the Poolside Garden. The pouring of fragrant water over the hands of elders is a symbol of paying respect and blessing good luck for the New Year. The activities continue with a long drum and Phi Ta Khon parade, water war and a boxing performance.
XANA Beach Club will host the event highlight with free entry – “Celebrate Songkran in Style”, a water fight with plenty of foam to cool down in the summer heat, Muay Tab Jak performance, live band and an all-star lineup of DJs to get the party moving.
The word Songkran means “a move or change in the astrological position of the sun” symbolised by the sprinkling of water and hand cleansing for good luck in the New Year. Taking place during the hottest period of the year, Songkran is a fun way to cool off. After the traditional water pouring ceremony, also known as Rod Nahm Dum Hua, the water throwing commences! In recent times, the ceremony has evolved into spontaneous water fights all over Thailand.
“The Songkran Splendours is aimed at giving visitors a taste of Songkran and preserve Thailand’s cultural heritage. We are encouraging our guests and associates to celebrate Songkran traditionally includes purifying or bathing Buddha statue and pouring fragrance water over the hands of elders to show respect and seek their New Year blessings. Songkran is about family and a time to be with loved ones – this is the true spirit of Songkran.” said Michal Zitek, Area General Manager of Angsana Laguna Phuket.
Angsana Laguna Phuket and Xana Beach Club would like to invite guests to experience an authentic Thai Cultural living with plenty of water and lots of fun.
