Dinner in the Dark

March 23 saw the world unite in the fight against climate change in the latest Earth Hour collaboration. People throughout the world joined together as a single community and turned of their electricity between 20.30 and 21.30 on Saturday night, in the biggest single mass participation event on the planet. Xana Beach Club With Attica and Angsana Hotel joined in as we offered our guests and friends the opportunity of dinning in the dark on Bang Tao beach, in front of our stunning beach club.

Chef Mirko and his team of professionals set about preparing a menu that could be cooked using only natural heat sources, the Xana Beach Club with Attica staff got the beach ready and as the sun set on yet another glorious day in Phuket, the al fresco dining experience with a difference was good to go. We had a great response from hotel guests and island residents as the tables completely sold out and our reserve list grew by the minute. The beach barbecue has been one of the main success stories of our amazing restaurant, offering a unique dining experience overlooking one of the most stunning beaches on the planet.

As the clock hit 20.30, all the electricity was turned off, the lights went out, the music stopped and the torches were lit, adding a real sense of drama to the BBQ. We lit two bonfires on the beach and entertainment was provided by Zazi, an amazing fire dancer and Oye, who set the beat with his live percussion. After the earth hour, Marco Loco, established Ibiza Resident and touring DJ provided the after party entertainment at the beach front, dropping a variety of cool beats which had the crowd on its feet dancing and celebrating the fact that had participated in one of the most significant demonstrations of their time. Earth hour continues next year, if you didn’t do your part this year, get it in your calendar and make the effort to help save the planet. Better still, get yourself over to Phuket and join us on Bang Tao beach!
